2014 Disney Resolutions

Magical Blogorail Orange Logo

Welcome to those of you joining me from Disney On Wheels and those of you just hopping aboard. I am the 2nd stop on our Magical Blogorail.  This month on the Magical Blogorail Orange loop we are blogging about Disney New Years Resolutions, the top things we want to experience at Disney in 2014.

#1 – Disneyland Half Marathon

I am a ‘wanna-be’ runDisney participant and for the past two years (no joke) I’ve tried to train to run a 5K.  I am not very athletic and I think that running marathons is NOT in my DNA yet I have this desire to be part of a runDisney event, I have no idea why.  I live on the west coast and Disneyland is my home turf.   There are only two runDisney events that happen at Disneyland each year so I only have two times a year that I can procrastinate, I mean participate.

The TinkerBell Half Marathon weekend in January 2014 {sold out} and Disneyland Half Marathon in August 2014 {registration opens January 2014}.  I am aiming for the Disneyland Half Marathon {see last years pics here on Facebook}.  There is one very important aspect to getting ready for a runDisney event and that is to properly train for it.  I am using Jeff Galloway’s training program found on the runDisney site.  He has created a training program for each runDisney event.  I also use an app called Get Running from Couch to 5K which helps me while running.  I like it because it tells you when to walk and when to run and how much longer in each segment.  I also use MapMyRun so that I can keep track of how far I’ve gone and share it with my friends on Facebook. If you are a newbie runner like me, you may be confused by nutrition while running.  RunDisney has that covered for you too with Tara Gidus, you can view her nutrition tips on the runDisney site as well.

#2 – Visit Disneyland during Christmas

I know what you are thinking, she’s never been to Disneyland at Christmas.  Well, I have but not recently and not with my kiddos.  I’ve been to Disneyland during Christmas way back in the last millennium with my then boyfriend {now husband}. Now that I have kiddos my Disneyland visitation schedule is pretty much dictated by their school schedule.  Ideally I would like to visit Disneyland during Christmas when it is not crowded, which is the two weeks before Christmas.  This is pretty much impossible due to their school schedule.  However, next year I might just say ‘forget it’ and take them out of school anyway around December 12th (ish) and head down to the Happiest Place on Earth.

Thank you for joining me today. Your next stop on the Magical Blogorail Loop is Disney with Babies, Toddlers and Preschoolers.

  2. Good on you! I’m slowly easing back in to running, so thanks for the training program links.

  3. Lisa Cameron says:

I feel the same way about RunDisney as you. I so want to be a part of it, but running is something I really don’t love. But with that said, I’m running the Family 5K marathon weekend. I’m a nervous wreck.

  4. Deb @ Focused on the Magic says:

Fantastic list! I’m such a wannabe runner! Each NY marathon and runDisney event gets me off the couch for awhile. Disneyland at Christmas would be magical! A trip to Disneyland is on my wish list for 2014!

  5. I would definitely take them out of school!!! I also thank you for the links for training for the race. I need to get back in gear!

I am right there with you on the Wanna Be Disney runner!! Maybe 2014 will be my year!!

  7. JenniferLissak says:

I swear by runDisney – I think they’re the best events around!! If you’re starting, C25K is the best and I’m an avid Galloway follower – he makes running so attainable!

  8. I am also trying to move up to a runDisney 10K.

  9. DIStherapy says:

Best of luck with #1 Dawn; you can run, you can run, you CAN run!!

  10. Good luck meeting all of your resolutions, Dawn! I think you can do both!

  11. Laura Chrisco says:

haha…RunDisney Wanna Be! yep that’s me too. One day… but I think I’m gonna have to move back to from Hawaii before I will be able to do it. Along with Christmas at Disneyland. I really miss that.

  12. RunDisney events are so much fun and the pressure is minimal so even if you aren’t a “runner” you’ll have a great time. I would LOVE to see Disneyland during Christmas too!

  13. stephanie says:

If you are not running in the marathon should you visit disneyland during this time? How crazy busy does it get?

    • Hi Stephanie, I have never been to Disneyland during race weekend.(yet) However, I would imagine that it will be a bit more crowded during race time with the runners and their families. I checked the Disneyland Annual Pass calendar and the Southern California passes are blocked which means that Disney is expecting more visitors that weekend. If you are planning on going to Disneyland I would plan to arrive early. The good news is that you can head back to your hotel for a mid-day break and go back to the park later in the day as Disneyland is open until mid-night and California Adventure is open until 10pm.
